I started keto in Nov 2011, and by most accounts have been pretty successful. Down over 100 lbs in that time. However, about half of that weight came off in the 1st 3 1/2 months, and the other half in the next 7. So for the last 4-5 months I've stayed the same.
I'm not sure what happened, but I think my body/metabolism changed. My guess is the culprit is diet soda. I really drink a ton of it, but I always have. Well, back pre-keto, I drank a lot of regular soda too. I prefer Diet Dr. Pepper's taste, but most restaurants only have regular DP or MP, so that's what I'd have. I don't drink alcohol or coffee, and only rarely tea or flavored waters.
So is it possible that I've just hit a point where diet soda is causing stalls? I haven't been the greatest at food logging lately either. But I have been "90%" good. I'd do great for 10-20 days at a time, then have a blowout of 3-4 straight meals of fast food. My knowledge told me that doing that would take me out of ketosis, and it could take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to fully get back in. Apparently I was good with that, because I kept doing that.
So, then, last night I rewatched Fat Head. That guy was eating 90-100g of carbs a day, and lost 12 lbs in 4 weeks. I was probably eating on average 50-75 a day, and stayed more or less the same weight. And his starting point is where I'm stuck at.
Because I wasn't logging, it is very possible I was overeating too. I like to frequent buffets (I live in Vegas and they are cheap and plentiful), and usually get 2-3 helpings of food. A big salad to start, then a plate full of meat/veggies, and if I went back for a 3rd plate, some cheese off a couple slices of pizza, and maybe more meat. It's so hard to log restaurant-made food, but now that I think about it, was probably eating a whole day's worth of calories in that meal, plus a full lunch and light breakfast.
So, I'm back to watching carbs & calories, and drinking more water. I will try to shake the diet soda too, but I'm so addicted to it, it's not funny. The garbage-men who pick up my recycling every week must think my house is a fat-farm. It's just that diet soda is the ONLY sweet thing I have in a day, it's really hard to give up. Plus the fact that I lost 100+ lbs while still drinking it, makes me feel entitled to keep drinking it.
Oh well, that's enough for now. Hopefully in a week I'll be back here saying that my water-riffic week paid dividends.
