I have been on a Keto diet for 2.5 months now. I dip into ketosis for a day or so ( due to the keto sticks) and have yet to actually stay in ketosis or lose any weight.
a little background:
I am a 49 yr old woman. I was a raw vegan for 8 years and then after a few major surgeries, I found that recuperation was very difficult and long without animal protein, so I slowing went back to the Standard American diet somewhat. Due to the surgeries and slowing down I put on about 20 pounds (I had previously lost almost 80 pounds on raw vegan, which I loved doing actually, but it doesn't work for me any more)
Last fall I had done my research and reading on Ketosis. I was going to try to find that balance between animal products and as much plant based as I could while still staying in ketosis. I had a ton of symptoms (bloating, fatigue, bowl symptoms...) but I stuck with it and lost maybe 5 pounds in a few months, then I was diagnosed with a HUGE mass on my ovary and had it removed (the mass and the ovary- hence the symptoms) Fast forward to now, I went back to do ketosis starting in May and have stuck to LCHF pretty well. and NOTHING.
here are the macros I have been hitting:
Fat 70-75%
Protein 20- 23%
Carbs 1-4%
I am only eating like 6-10 grams of carbs a day.
Eating whole foods. The only thing I can think of is that I am not eating enough calories.
I was taking in about 900, but realized that was too low (5' 5 and 210#...)
So when I calculate my calories it tends to be about 1300-ish a day.
I am lightly active, walking and the gym about 2x a week. weight lifting
Typical day is
Breakfast BP tea and if I have time, a few eggs and spinach and cheese
Lunch salad of greens and protein and avocado and nuts
dinner protein and veggies
I try to add fat whenever I can with Butter and cream and avocado , cheese and nuts.
I really believe that this woe has tremendous benefits and it has gotten rid of my IBS which had gone into over drive after the latest surgery.
I want this to work, I feel horrible at this weight (goal weight is 150-160)
