Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone can help me with regards to getting into ketosis. I've heard it can take several weeks to become keto adapted. My question is - say I've been eating very low carb-high fat for a couple of weeks but am not yet keto adapted, then I have a day when I've overdone it quite big on the carbs as in eaten a pasta meal and had a slice of cake. Does that then mean I'm back to square one with the keto adaptation process? As in, those couple of weeks now don't count even if I go back straight away to eating LCHF. I ask as this is exactly what I've done :-(
I understand that once you are keto adapted and you have the odd slip up you can get back into ketosis reasonably quickly but just wondering about how the initial stage is affected.
Thanks
Rachel

I'm no expert, but I think you may be setting yourself back by eating such a carb loaded meal so early in the game.
You may recover the ability to produce significant ketone bodies fairly quickly after resuming LCHF, but I suspect you take yourself back to square one in actually becoming keto adapted. Every body is different so there may be exceptions to this, but to be safe, I would not indulge like you did. It's a slippery slope.
If you are using regent strips to test urine and have a positive result, it doesn't mean your body is using the ketones as fuel. So you may appear to have recovered from the deviation in your diet, but in actuality, you may just be spilling ketone bodies into your urine.
Think of resisting temptation as literally "exercising" your self control. The more you resist, the stronger your resolve will get.
Hope this was helpful.

I've been on Keto for 5 weeks. I'm down 10 lbs.and 8 inches. But this week I'm stalled. Could nuts be the culprits?

Hi, I'm new to Keto as well. Started a week ago and was showing ketones on the ketostix by the third day. I kept my carbs as low as I could and supplemented extra fat whenever I craved carbs. I've lost 6 pounds but have not measured inches. I'm rarely hungry and my question is this. If you have a large breakfast with macros in proportion (LC MP HF) and a snack of say mixed nuts that complete your calorie goal and Macros, is it ok not to be eating 3 meals a day? How long does it take to Adapt (because I don't know exactly what that means).

I am going on week six and started adding some carbs about week four, i have lose 15pounds so far but i believe brining back the carbs set me back a bit. On the Keto diet carbs are my enemy so i have cut them out for a while, eating carbs will take you out of ketoses pretty fast at lease for me try to stay lower then 40 grams a day. When i eat carbs i can feel them easy now so no more carbs for me we don't need them. yi5hedr3 you can get back in a couple of days read up on the bulletproof diet book and Keto Clarity these can help you with what you need to eat. As for me i have slowed down in my eating habits and only eat when i am hungry about once very 22 hours. Its amazing no huger pains or cravings i have never been able to do this ever before. So i Know i am on the right tract in the beginning you can really eat what you want but it need to be hi fat good grass fed beef and butter lots of it. i start with the bulletproof coffee every morning a cup an one for lunch and eat dinner at 7pm. Once i get to my target weight ill play around with some carbs and other foods but not until then.
I am one who played around with so many other diets just to keep on putting on the pounds Carbs are no good for us i have high blood pressure also diabetes 2 but all of my reading are getting better daily plus i am feeling great with more energy then i have had in a very long time so i know i am on the right tract finely. For some they and get on this diet and lose rapidly and for others it takes a little while but if you hang in there it should pay off.

Hi there; I am thrilled to be a part of this forum. I am completely new to the keto diet, so I appreciate input from all of you. I just bought this book on Amazon www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016U7MQQ2 Ketogenic Diet: The Ultimate Guide to Weight Loss by Jacob K. Lundgren and it’s really good so far!

Seabay, I eat once every 24 hours and get all my macros in, almost. I have lost 20 pounds in three weeks. I do not feel hungry at all and crave nothing. Another friend of mine does the same thing, but he doesn't keep track of the calories, fat, and protein. He has lost almost 100 lbs in less than a year. We both feel great.
