Hi! I just started the keto diet 9 days ago and the keto sticks show moderately high levels of ketones most of the time (8 mmol/L). I've deviated from the diet twice and ate a bunch of chocolate and ice cream (but no gluten), and the sticks still measure 3 mmol/L. I've also been getting dizzy a bit. I'm starting to get alarmed that my ketone levels are too high, maybe I have type 2 diabetes and I have ketoacidosis?
Shouldn't my ketone levels be low if I had ice cream and chocolate the day before? I've read that sticks were not reliable, but I've never read about it indicating too much ketones, only too little.
I've lost 6lbs the first week and last four days because I've started eating ice cream weight loss plateaued. Besides desserts the rest of my diet has no carbs and is 70% fat.

I'm a bit confused about your ketostix readings. The units they read in are ml/dL, not mmol/L. I would be interested to know what your blood glucose levels look like.

I just tested my blood glucose 10 min after a keto meal and it was 82. The keto stick indicated 4 mmol/L (40 mg/dL). My eating all day was good, it was last night that I had all that sugar. What do you think?

Morning fasting blood sugar is 72. Am I now borderline hypoglycemic?

I think that it depends on your "keto meal". The glucose looks good, you test in the mid range for ketones in the urine, but that doesn't mean that the ketones in your blood put you in ketosis after a sugar hit. The only way to be sure of that is to either have the blood tested, or perhaps using one of the breath monitors which corresponds to ketones in the blood. The paramount concern is that you are electing to eat ice cream 9 days into a carb-reduced diet. This doesn't bode well.

JennyMPK - One thing I would say is find a substitute to the ice cream. Look up Keto friendly desserts and try them. The last thing you want to be doing is eating great all day to then shovel ice cream at night which will give you a huge sugar hit right before bed. I'm not surprised you wake up with a headache if you do this as your body will be coming out the back of fasting all night and be in a low blood sugar state. I've not been following a Ketosis diet for long but one thing I have really noticed is keeping to good keto meals is important because it stops you feeling crappy in between not to mention stops you binging too much on other food.
Over the last weekend I was with family whom I haven't seen since Xmas and had a total binge. By Monday I felt lethargic, headachy, bloated and generally worn out. Straight away I got back onto the Keto diet and had a great gym session yesterday. Today I feel amazing although I think my body is going through a purge as I keep needing to make trips to the bathroom.
Another thing I do is drink water, lots of it. I currently flush 4.5-6 litres of water through. Now before someone goes "that's way too much" I currently weigh 131kg (288lb) so I am not a small guy and I am hell bent on flushing all the toxins out my system. I also don't consume caffeine, I have been caffeine free for just over a year, with the odd blip in between.
Good luck in your Keto journey.
