Hello, I started with keto diet 2 months ago, after the reading lot of articles and finding some connections with lot of my health problems (polycistic ovaries, low cholesterol, insulin resistance and so on..). I decided to start with low carb/keto diet, because everything seems like that could be the solution for my problems.
I am 20 kgs overweight, actually I'm overweight during my whole lifetime, never went under 75kgs on my 1,69 m height. Now I have around 85, and sometimes I went almost near 100.
I'm struggling with my weight from my childhood days, even when I was in training 5 times a week and won some medals - I had these extra pounds and always felt (and was) fat.
Except that, I struggled with afternoon crashes, fatigue, poor concentration, depression and mood swings.
So, started with keto, mostly based on coconut oil, butter, fish, meat, eggs, some bacon, sometimes cheeses, and lot of green veggies. I make all my meals from scratch, almost never buying prepacked products, everything is fresh (there is lot of green markets, and butcher shops in my country). I cutted milk, fruits, trans-fats, legumes, grains (even the healthy ones like oats). SOmetimes I eat cottage cheese, yoghurt, heavy cream, and some fruits like strawberries. I'm also taking omega-3 and vitamin C.
I must say that I feel great, my menstrual cycle is now stabile, I have great skin, I'm not tired anymore, I work and learn better, I sleep well, wake up early, and got the desire for moving and sports (mostly walking, hiking, and other outdoor activities). I even lost celulite, I think it went down for like 50%.
Buut, I'm not losing weight as expected. I'm definetely in ketosis (checked with keto sticks), and I'm absoulutely frustrated because I read all those stories where people magically lose 10 kgs in first month. I barely lost 1-2.
Beside of that, I'm experiencing difficulties with my hiking activities, I'm slow and very thirsty during these excercises, i thought that was normal in the beggining, but there is no change, even the moderate trails are still pretty challenging for me (and I go hiking every weekend, and walk and run during the week). So, I'm suffering during the training, with no weight loss at all, sometimes I almost went mad, because I was walking up the hills for weeks, and sometimes my trousers even were more tight than before after that trainings. It's like my fat is sticked on me and won't go away no matter what I do. (even after I changed my eating and working-out habits).
When it comes to calories, I'm not precisely counting, but I'm around 2000 (sometimes 2500, sometimes 1500). I know that's maybe still too much, but there is less than before.
The only time when I experienced obviusly weight loss was after the one hiking trip, after which I ate some simple carbs (I'm not doing that usually). Only after that I noticed some positive changes on my weight.
I don't know what to do, I definetly want to stick with low carb because I feel lot of benefits, but I don't know what to do to speed up the weight loss.
Should I eat carbs only after the training?
Should I start with weight training?
Should I count calories?
Please help because I'm gonna become frustrated, and I don't want that this time, because I want to do this till the end, and hit my 65 kg goal.
Thanks.
