Hi! While trying to find an alternative to my ADD medicine (dexamphetamine) I stopped eating gluten a couple of months ago. It helped a bit, but I noticed that some days I would suddenly feel extremely clear, energetic, enthousiastic and almost ecstatic, though this did not seem to be directly related to my gluten intake. Looking at what else had changed in my diet by eating gluten-free, I concluded that it might be due to my unintended carb restriction. To find out, I started eating the keto way some weeks ago. After only a couple of days, the clear euphoria returned, and kept returning more and more often. Now i'm pretty sure it's beta-hydroxybutyrate I have been feeling I bought some ketostix to have an indication of my metabolic state. I wondered why it seemed to be so hard to get a value of above 1. The last couple of days I did not feel too well anymore, easily tired and less enthousiastic and I wondered why. Now it turns out though that I have been interpreting the ketone values wrong since I started using them a week or two ago, confusing grams per liter with mmol per liter! I was apparently aiming at 10 mmol/L all the time! I guess this means I have been in pretty deep ketosis for the last two weeks or so, with my ketostics consequenty indicating an approximate value of 8 mmol/L. Is this bad in any way? And what do you think is the optimal value for mental clarity for somebody with (pretty severe) attention deficit disorder like me? Thanks for your answers from the Netherlands!
