So, let's all get to know each other a little better. What are your hobbies? I feel like they're the one thing that really defines a person.
I love to read, but I'm not too hip on newer authors. I'd make a little list of my favorite books.... but that would take pages. Catch 22 is awesome, and I love anything by Bradbury, Orwell, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Poe. Anyone along those lines always catches my attention.
I've played video games for as long as I've been able to hold a controller. I started with an NES, and have worked my way up through the ages to my PS3 (Soon to be PS4... I can't wait for the end of this year!). My favorite genre is RPGs, but they've reeeaaallly slipped this console generation.
I play around in Photoshop to quell my creative needs, but I'm not the greatest at it. I'd like to get a drawing tablet at some point.... but I'm not sure I want to throw that much money in to something I'm not super confident in. I get wishy-washy about it.
A recent addition to my list is learning to program in Python. It's not going super well though.... I've slacked on studying a lot here lately.
What do you guys call fun?

I am an IT Specialist in my day job, but also like to fix rebuild PCs as a hobby. I like helping out friends & coworkers with their tech issues, at a much lower cost than Best Buy. Since I haven't been socializing too much, it's one of the ways I would get out and meet people.
I also like to go bowling, have been doing that since I was a kid. I don't watch much TV any more (figured that was attributing to my sloth-like lifestyle), so I listen to a lot of radio & music. Heavy metal & punk rock mostly. I regularly drive to LA to go see tours that bypass Vegas.
Lastly, I have gotten into the local burlesque scene, thanks to a buddy I work with who has his own monthly variety show. He features all sorts of acts and I noticed I like the burlesque dancers more often than not. That lead to me going to other burlesque shows (of which there are many!), and I realized how nice that community it. Everyone is so friendly, it makes for a great atmosphere.

Poe. Yes, please. Hobbies? What is that? That requires free time. j/k I wish I had time for my hobbies. I LOVE reading and writing is my passion. I am also quite crafty and artsy fartsy. I am not in to video games. I have tried. I find I lose my patience and my attention just doesn't stick. I would rather be reading. I love playing with Photoshop and plan to take some photography and photoshop glasses after June when I graduate with my Masters degree (hence why I have no time for fun stuff.) Right now the only time I get to play with PS is when I have to create covers for my ebooks (under a pen name.) I really want to attend some burlesque shows. I love that sort of stuff. I believe in my state the only place that has them are about an hour or two away. I do enjoy comedy as it gets me out of my reality. I'm a freelance journalist/writer by day. I love rock and metal. My husband has played with some pretty well known bands. I'm really into Irish Punk as well. In season, I love to garden. Cooking is huge hobby for me. And taking photos of it. Even though they just all end up on my phone or camera. (no time!)

irishchik - What's your favorite Poe story? I've always been quite fond of The Black Cat and The Cask of Amontillado. Also, what sort of stuff do you write? Maybe I'll look up an ebook of yours! The reason I love video games (And mainly RPGs) is because it's like an interactive story. They do take a lot in the way of time and patience, though. LoB - Next time I have a problem with my computer, I know who to ask ;P I've never been good at bowling, the highest I've ever scored was a 94, if I remember correctly. Since we apparently have some rockers here, let's list some bands! I'm trying to think of what I currently have on my phone. Slayer, always. Slipknot, Tool, Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, NIN, Manson.... but that isn't the only stuff I listen to. The Doors, Hendrix, Van Halen, and Zepplin, all the way to Prodigy, RATM, Fatboy Slim, Rancid, Mumford and Sons, The White Stripes, Caravan Palace.... I listen to a bit of almost everything. I don't have a taste for Country, Rap, R&B or most current Pop, though. Growing up, all most anyone I knew listened to was Country, Rap and Pop. I spent most of my childhood wanting to gouge my own ears out

well i like working with the adobe creative suites, especially photoshop. so my past few jobs have been advertising designer and layout director for a newspaper. in april i'm going to be the editor in chief! which is pretty awesome because i get to go in my own creative direction with it. i've also written a bit...a few columns/articles, mostly on fashion and nutrition. i did my undergrad in studio art and art history, and then took continuing education courses in photoshop, illustrator and indesign. i feel like i'm writing a resume right now . but i feel like my education/career choices say a lot about me. i'm heavily invested in fashion and i try to dress creatively every day. i also try to "model" once in a while, though it's just for fun. i enjoy doing creative things with my hair, and i moderate a hair forum that at one time had 30,000 people in it. now we've paired down to maybe 100?? but i've been doing my own hair for the past 10+ years and i even had an argument on reddit with a lady in /r/fancyfollicles who didn't believe i dyed my own hair. (so glad i left reddit btw, it was such a bitchy place to me.) i spend a lot of free time on the internet and watching tv shows. i go on ebay a ton, i'm kinda addicted. and i watch a million tv shows such as; 30 rock, parks and rec, dexter, the wire, portlandia, workaholics, project runway, girls, breaking bad, curb your enthusiasm, it's always sunny in philly, modern family, etc. the real housewives franchise is my guilty pleasure that i hate admitting to. i also read, though it's all non-fiction. stuff like a brief history in time by hawking, the greatest show on earth by dawkins...my current read is the beauty myth by naomi wolf. and i read a lot of blogs, mostly about body acceptance. i own two 2 cats! one has a breathing problem/asthma so her name is vader (like darth vader), and then to keep with the outer-space theme we named our kitten 'romulus'. he doesn't have a tail...it's so cute. he just got neutered on friday so he has his little e-collar and is all pathetic looking. i'm basically a crazy cat lady btw. that's all i can think of for now.
