i thought 'the art and science of low carbohydrate living' was WAY more informative/interesting than 'why we get fat'. so i'd suggest reading that one for sure.

I'll agree with LadySixString! The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living is a great resource. In addition to that and the Taubes resource you already have, you might want to look at Zoe Harcombe's book on Obesity (The Obesity Epidemic). She has some very rigorous coverage of the thermodynamics problem, the problem with assumptions about calories, and of course, policy.
I also have a list of books on Ketopia that may help, but I'm still working on the reviews for all of them. (There's only a couple I haven't read yet).

The last edition of Dr. Atkins' book was what got me into the whole low carb/high fat diet in the first place. The book has footnotes all over the place to scientific papers. Worth checking out.

I am in the process of reading "The Art and Science of Low Carb Living" so I can't give a thumbs up just yet. I can give a thumbs up to Taubes books "Good Calories Bad Calories," "Why We Get Fat," and Lyle McDonalds "The Ketogenic Diet." I also second the Atkins book, and the website where the link to hundreds of studies. And check out the Diet Doctor (dietdoctor.com) website because he has a lot of information as well.
